More Potent
Contains 30+ strains of bacteria vs. only 2-3 in store versions.

πŸ’°

Cheaper
You buy grains once, and they last forever. You only pay for milk.

🎨

Customizable
Control the fermentation time to adjust sourness and thickness.

πŸ₯£ What You Need

  • 500ml (2 Cups)

    Whole Cow/Goat Milk
  • 1 Tablespoon

    Milk Kefir Grains
  • Glass Jar

    Clean, 1 Litre capacity
  • Plastic Sieve

    Avoid metal utensils

βš™οΈ The Process

1

Combine

Place grains in the jar. Pour milk over them. Leave 2-3cm of air space at the top.
2

Cover & Ferment

Cover with a cloth/coffee filter and secure with a rubber band. Let sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
3

Check for “Whey”

It is ready when the milk has thickened and you see small pockets of clear liquid (whey) appearing near the bottom.
4

Strain & Repeat

Pour through a plastic sieve into a bowl. The liquid is your drink! Put the grains back in the jar with fresh milk immediately. Do not rinse them.

❓ Troubleshooting Common Issues

Why did my kefir separate (Curds & Whey)?
This means it fermented too long or the room was too hot. It is safe to drink! Shake it vigorously to remix.
Read our full Separation Guide here.
It smells like yeast/bread. Is that okay?
Yes. Kefir is a balance of bacteria and yeast. If the temperature is high, yeast becomes more active. To balance it, try fermenting in a cooler spot.
Do I really need to avoid metal?
Brief contact (like a spoon) is fine. However, leaving grains in a metal sieve or metal jar for long periods can damage them due to the acidity reacting with the metal.
